A translation of the story 《秋天的怀念》by 史铁生.
Shi Tiesheng (1951-2010) was a celebrated Chinese essayist renowned for his poignant reflections on life, suffering, and resilience. Paralyzed at 21 after a spinal injury during his youth, he channeled his physical and emotional struggles into literary work. His writing, marked by philosophical depth and raw vulnerability, earned him the 2005 Lu Xun Literature Prize.
This particular piece (written in 1981), is a semi-autobiographical essay, capturing Shi's grief over his mother's death and his remorse for her sacrifices during his darkest years.
