hello heaven, hello

When they're thanking the crowd and getting ready to clean the stage, JJ glances at Emily. Her makeup survived their set just fine, but her hair is muffled and the chains on her skirt are all messy. She's a little sweaty and there's a mark on her shoulder from where the strap of her guitar was firmly planted for the last hour.

She's smiling at the crowd and making playful bows to thank them for the attention, breathing heavily after all the time they spent playing, and suddenly JJ is not really thinking about how hot it is inside the club or how loud the screams are.

People are clapping at them, but she wants to look at Emily. She's still too high on adrenaline to overthink it.

And when Emily looks back at her and her eyes and smile soften so perceptibly, JJ blames that same adrenaline for the rush of her heart.
