A summer in disguise

Inside the villa, the atmosphere shifted instantly.
"We need to talk," Lila whispered urgently, pushing the door closed behind them.
Standing in the living room were three men-very clearly not the kind of people who won contests. One leaned casually against the kitchen island, another sat perched on the arm of a sofa.
And at the center of it all stood Caleb Laurent.
Tall, broad-shouldered, effortlessly composed, Caleb looked up as the girls rushed in. His dark brown hair fell neatly around his face, white shirt sleeves rolled just enough to reveal toned forearms. His violet eyes sharpened with curiosity.
"She doesn't know," Naomi said immediately, barely catching her breath. "Serena. She doesn't know anything."
Lila nodded fast. "She thinks we won a competition. That this is just a shared summer stay. Please-don't say anything about dating."
Caleb straightened.
"What do you mean she doesn't know?" he asked, voice calm but intent.
"She wouldn't have come otherwise," Naomi admitted. "She's... careful. Proud. She doesn't date publicly. No rumors, no expectations. She thinks everyone here is just... coincidentally staying."
There was a beat of silence.
Then, through the open doorway, Caleb saw her.
Serena stood outside alone, framed by sunlight, lifting her suitcase from the trunk with quiet elegance. There was nothing performative about her-no anticipation, no nervous excitement. Just composure. Poise. Distance.
Something in Caleb's chest shifted.
She's untouched by this, he realized.
And somehow, that made her infinitely more captivating.
He nodded once. "Understood."
