The silence between us is deafening and I can't look at him the same way. The way he looked at me, making sure I was safe, it was all twisted in my mind.

How can he do that? How can he kill someone and then act like it was nothing? How can he face me with a smile or a playful look? How can he be so hollow and then be so full of warmth when facing me? How can he pull me into his arms and promise to keep me safe when he is the danger?

He's killing someone with no mercy, a man who could watch someone beg for their life and feel nothing at all. It was a dangerous paradox. The hands that could end a life were the same hands that brushed the hair from my face and made my heart race for all the wrong reasons.
