When college-aged Jeff Woods moves with his family into the quiet suburb of Forest Lawn, the neighborhood welcomes him with polite smiles and unspoken rules. Beneath its manicured lawns and watchful windows, cruelty thrives quietly, passed down through rumor, fear, and selective blindness.
Jeff doesn't fight back. He watches. He learns how systems choose scapegoats, how silence spreads faster than truth, and how fear doesn't need violence to do damage. As Forest Lawn grows uneasy around him, it mistakes his calm for danger and his restraint for threat, slowly mythologizing him into something he hasn't yet become.
The neighborhood's cruelty ultimately finds its target not in Jeff, but in his brother Liu, whose kindness and visibility make him easy to blame. When Liu is taken away to prison for crimes rooted in the town's lies, Jeff is left behind, marked by reputation, isolation, and a growing understanding of how monsters are manufactured long before blood is spilled.
