"Sometimes it feels like I'm not even your boyfriend. I'm just... there."
Anya had smiled, beautiful and unapologetic, her shoulder-length brown hair tucked behind one ear.
"Well," she replied, sincerely puzzled, "you are there."
He had laughed then. Not because it was funny, but because it was over.

Anya loved herself. Not in a performative way, not loudly-but completely. She trusted her instincts, her face, her body, her future. She moved through life like someone who had never doubted she would land on her feet. That confidence, intoxicating at first, always became the reason men left.

She was too independent.
Too contained.
Too... uninterested in merging.
