My first year at a normal school wasn't supposed to be anything special. I kept my head down, showed up to class, and did my best not to trip over the obvious things everyone else seemed to see. I had short dyed brunette hair, dark eyes, and a knack for missing what was right in front of me.That's probably why I didn't understand the way people reacted when I started hanging out with her.Everyone noticed her first. She had this magnetic kind of charm - the looks, the confidence - and a reputation for dating someone, kissing them, then breaking up the very next day. She even joked about keeping a list of names. But for some reason, none of that mattered when we were together. She just... became my best friend.I never questioned the way she'd lean a little too close or throw playful jokes my way. I thought that was just how she was with people.
