​The brick wall bit into her spine, cold and unforgiving, but it was nothing compared to the heat raging under her skin. She opened her mouth to scream, to let the fire enact its will, but he was faster. ​A heavy forearm slammed across her chest, pinning her in place, while his gloved hand clamped hard over her mouth, stifling the sound. ​"Do. Not. Breathe," he hissed, his lips brushing the shell of her ear. ​Lyra struggled, her eyes shifting from green to molten gold. The air between them began to warp. Smoke curled from the ends of her hair, smelling of sulfur and burnt sugar. It singed the leather of his gloves, but he didn't pull away. He pressed harder, his body a wall of solid muscle encasing her. ​He looked down at her, his dark eyes capturing the reflection of her own internal flame. He inhaled the smoke rising from her skin like it was oxygen. ​"Go ahead," he whispered, his voice dark and rough with a hunger she didn't understand. "Burn me, Lyra. See if I let go."
