Jack loved his life as a Guardian. Protecting children, spreading joy, and finally belonging made the loneliness of his past feel distant, especially with Pitch gone. Yet the world has begun to change. Division, unrest, and a growing coldness spread with no clear cause, until Jack learns the truth: the Spirit of Love, Cupid, has been missing for over a century. To undo the damage, Jack and North set out to find her. Instead of the love-struck spirit he imagined, Jack finds a bitter recluse who agrees to help only if she can return to solitude once Strife-the Spirit of Anger and her natural opposite-is defeated. As Strife prepares for war, Cupid joins the Guardians one last time. Privately, North gives Jack a task: keep her happy. As he grows closer to her, affection comes easily for him, but painfully slow for her. She insists she'll leave when it's over, and Jack begins to realize how deeply immortality, loss, and love have scarred her.
