One Summer

He looked at the photo on his phone one more time. Chaewon on her eighteenth
birthday, young and hopeful and so full of love.
"In another life," he said again, his voice barely a whisper in the dark apartment. "In another life, you would have been mine. We would have been forever."
But not this one.
