"I was born knowing only him. I don't even exist in this world without him. The universe has tried to kill me again and again, but no one-not even God-gets past my brother." Abolish is the only divine thing Birdie believed in. The only person to offer a hand to her.

"Whatever happened to you, whatever you've done, you're still my sister." From the moment their parents died, Abolish sacrificed his childhood for Birdie. Again and again, he would offer his hand to her so long as she'd take his bloodied palm.

The last living Veylockes didn't expect to find themselves trapped in rundown Oakhurst with deadly creatures killing townsfolk, but their survival now depends on the outcome of everyone. Because Birdie won't let Abolish die, no matter what she must become. And Abolish is willing to die for Birdie, after he kills everyone in their path.

When who they are and who they need to be to survive are two very different people, the siblings begin to hide the things they've done to protect each other.
