during her second year as a rider at basgiath war college, rhysa mairi is forced to continue playing the role as an aetos, carefully concealing the broken fragments of her memory that have resurfaced while also operating under the hidden rebellion in aretia, led by brennan sorrengail.
after uncovering a massive conspiracy about the venin threat, she is forced to work alongside a man she was in love with, but couldn't trust ( including other rebels ). xaden riorson was aware of the memory wipe, but didn't reveal it to her. lying to her about the venin threat was one thing, but this was something else entirely.
together - they must find a way to power the wards. they search for ancient journals rumored to hold the secret, but it proves to be more challenging than one thought due to a hostile vice commandment and being targeted relentlessly.
with assassins lurking, loyalty constantly tested, the unknown extent of her powers, and enemies hiding in plain sight, rhysa is forced to harden and make decisions that don't come lightly. the line between survival and rebellion begins to blur and the lies holding navarre together starts to crack under the weight of the truth.
