Hermione, during her first twenty years of life, had lived a very normal life in a northern village with her family. But it all changed.
Unexplained darkness began to slowly swallow the sun and life from the distant northern lands, spreading an eternal gloom. It was discovered by many priests that this darkness carried a malevolent magic, turning the minds of those caught in its wake to its cause.
As the darkness progressed, village elders (Seers) from the northern villages began to have fitful dreams of the future. Northern settlers must move south, and an army must be rallied to combat the ever-extending darkness.
The more individuals the darkness devours the more powerful it appears to become.
The village elders had prophesied that individuals affected by the dark magic would devote their lives to the cause of spreading the darkness. But has the true aim of the darkness's master, the Dark Lord, gone unnoticed? -- what is going on behind the lines of darkness that nobody dares to pass through?
It all appears to be uncovered as the story progresses.
