When her crew is arrested, Maddie is left alone and homeless in New York City. With nothing to fall back on, she does the only thing she's ever been good at, lying. She manages to con her way into Brighton Academy, one of the city's most prestigious private schools.

Overnight, Maddie builds a new identity and slips into a world of money, power, and unspoken rules. All she has to do is stay invisible. That plan falls apart when she draws the attention of the three girls who run the school: Vivienne, Adriana and Poppy.

She also finds herself torn between two very different boys:
Jake, a charming golden boy who represents everything her new life promises, and Carter, a rebellious outsider who sees through her act and threatens to unravel the persona she's worked so hard to build.

As the pressure mounts, Maddie must decide how far she's willing to go to become somebody else. And whether belonging in a world that was never meant for her is worth losing the person she truly is.
