What We Fight Without Saying

The orange sands swallowed the desert, the thin, humid air scorching against her skin. The fierce, relentless heat mirrored the tension coiling in her chest. Armed rebels had launched a surprise attack in a place they all thought was free of insurgents. She realized too late: they were deep in enemy territory, trapped within the rebels' perimeter. As she pressed forward through the dusty wasteland to escape, she was suddenly seized by a group of Arab fighters, their grip iron-tight. She must face her reality, she must face that she is captured by the enigmatic sheikh whose presence radiated danger.

For Commander Captain Seraphina Viglianco, every mission carries the weight of finality and some she can escape, but this one is deeply personal. Her mother was killed by the very rebels they now pursue, turning duty into resolve and war into a vow she intends to fulfill. She knows she was born into this life, and may be claimed by it-by the desert, where shifting sands stand ready to engulf all, and death is never beyond reach.
