In the holy city of Varanasi, the dead don't always stay dead.

When Ananya Oberoi, the daughter of a textile mogul, is killed by four wealthy, untouchable young men-the "Golden Boys"-the police call it an accident. The city moves on. But her best friend, Meera, does not.

Three months later, Ananya's body rises from the Ganges during a funeral rite, perfectly preserved. The city screams miracle. The Golden Boys scream horror. And one by one, they begin to die in impossible, element-themed ways: a drowning in a locked car; a spontaneous combustion in a police cell.

Enter Elias, an enigmatic international investigator who sees the world in chemical equations rather than prayers. He knows the "miracle" is a stage trick and the "curse" is an execution. He recruits Meera to help him hunt the killer, unaware that he is walking straight into the lion's den.
