Carden and Jude have been married for five years. And their subjects as well as the royal court is telling Carden to take on additional lovers, like his father and the kings before him. Carden had seen how bad it had gotten, first hand seat to the hate from his fathers other wives, and children, they had hated each other, and Carden refused to even simply kiss, or lay hands on any other women who isn't his wife.
