FRAGMENTED

Levi went still, his face paling as he stepped out of the ensuite. Jude sat at the edge of the bed, jaw tight and gaze thunderous. His fingers curled around the chain Levi secretly always wore, and from it dangled two rings.

Their wedding rings.

"You kept them?" Jude's voice was deceptively calm.

Levi lowered his head, unable to meet Jude's penetrating stare. He didn't even know where to begin. Jude was never meant to find them.

"You. Kept. Them?" Jude repeated, enunciating the words sharply.

"Yes," he breathed, voice trembling.

"Why?" Jude rose from the bed. With every step he took forward, Levi retreated backward until his spine hit the wall.

Jude's hand slid up Levi's chest and settled onto his neck, gently tilting his head back to look at him. Levi's eyes were glassy with unshed tears.

"I'm not going to ask again." His grip applied the faintest pressure, sending heat shooting down Levi's body.

"I don't know why I kept them." It was, in part, the truth, but Jude could see right through him.

An amused smile spread across Jude's face.

"Wrong answer."
