Keen to escape her past, Isla Monroe comes to Port Lowen for a fresh start.

She finds herself with a job behind a bar, a small apartment with thin walls - and a man who seems to take personal offence at her existence.

Sam Cross is moody, cruel, and unapologetically unwelcoming. He questions her, intimidates her, watches her like she's a problem waiting to happen, and seems faintly pleased when she gets uncomfortable. He doesn't trust her. He doesn't want her there. And he makes that very clear.
