Fire and Water do not mix easily.
Neteyam, the dutiful eldest son of Toruk Makto, carries the weight of his family's safety on his shoulders. He cannot afford to fail at learning the ways of the reef.
Aonung, the prideful prince of the Metkayina, resents the intrusion of the forest people and the task of teaching them. He finds Neteyam's stiff discipline arrogant and annoying.
But disdain turns to curiosity when Aonung witnesses Neteyam's secret, exhausting late-night struggles in the water. Drawn together by the shared pressure of expectation, an unspoken truce forms in the darkness of the reef.
