Whispers in the Dead City

During a supply run outside the protective walls, Gabriel's team is overwhelmed by a massive horde of the Rotten. As his team falls, Gabriel braces himself for a pathetic hero's death. Suddenly, he is saved by Valeriano, who descends from the sky, parting the earth and commanding the zombies to halt. Unlike others, who look at Valeriano with pity or fear, Gabriel gazes at him with pure awe.

Valeriano is a nonverbal sixteen-year-old boy with high-functioning mild autism. He possesses superhuman powers that he has hidden since childhood from a judgmental world; in fact, he would rather socialize with the Rotten than with humans.
