The story follows the Ancient Heroes, a powerful batch of cookies who have deemed themselves as peacekeepers of Earthbread, blessed by the power of Soul Jam. However, as of late, new foes have been introduced to the story: The Beast Cookies. They are the original owners of the Soul Jam, once virtues who oversaw all of Earthbread, but eventually fell to darkness due to the immense power given to them.

In "FAILSAFE", the Ancients take on a much different role; Assassins. Tasked to kill anyone their parent company assigns them to. This time around, they're assigned to take out the Beasts, who in this timeline are large crime bosses, who've recently come into the spotlight and are causing anarchy all across the country. Each Ancient corresponds to a Beast, eliminating them one by one. However, there's one person in particular we follow in the story who might have a bit of trouble taking out their target.. and they won't be let off the hook so easily.

Vincent Kareem is an amateur assassin, tasked with taking out a notorious con-artist, Shamila Dolus. However, as Vincent gets familiar with Shamila, he begins to feel sympathetic towards her, and realizes that she may not be as bad as his parent company makes her out to be. Vin refuses to kill her, leaving the company no choice but to fire him, replacing him with the second-in-command to the big boss, a familiar foe to Shamila. Learning this, Vincent now feels obligated to protect his former target, trying to redeem her as they race against the clock.
