Salisbury, England. Famous for its 123-meter spire, its historic Magna Carta, and its rainy Tuesday afternoons where the laws of physics are merely a suggestion.

Silas Vane is a Custodian. He doesn't have a wand; he has a migraine, a bandolier of bone tuning forks, and a severe case of tinnitus. His job is simple: keep the supernatural waste of the city from spilling into the high street, all while working off a debt to the Bureau of Infernal Affairs that he can't possibly repay.

But Silas doesn't work alone.

Meet Barnaby. To the public, he's a scruffy, anxious Wolfhound with a nervous disposition. In reality, he is Barbatos an Archdemon, a high-ranking Demon Lord compressed into a biological vessel that can't handle his ego.

Barnaby is telepathic, deeply arrogant, and suffers from catastrophic separation anxiety. If Silas walks more than fifty feet away, Barnaby doesn't just whine-he begins to unpick the fabric of reality out of spite.

Together, they are the only thing standing between the world and total metaphysical collapse.

The pay is terrible. The hours are unsociable. And the voice in Silas's head won't stop critiquing his life choices.
