The Ghost of Memory

Plot Summary: Ruby Willow Matthews, a 15-year-old girl with hyperthymesia, a condition allowing her to remember every detail of her life with photographic precision, moves to New York City after a traumatic event in her past. Struggling to cope with the constant replay of painful memories, Ruby isolates herself and attempts to blend in with her peers at John Quincy Addams High School. However, she soon finds solace in an unlikely group of friends - Maya, Farkle, Lucas, and eventually Logan - who accept her for who she is. As Ruby navigates her new life, she grapples with the double-edged sword of her hyperthymesia. On one hand, it allows her to excel academically and recall important details, but on the other, it makes her relive every hurt, embarrassment, and traumatic experience with unerring clarity. Her struggles with anxiety, nightmares, and social interactions become increasingly evident.
