Aila is only eight when her life is turned upside down due to one family trip. Now her father is an abusive drunkard and she has to deal with his beatings alone, unwilling to tell even her friends about her home life. She, herself, changes through time, hardening herself to anything else that might cause her the pain she felt at eight years old. Little does she know that she has a guardian angel watching over her, helping her when her father beats her and when she has no one else to turn to. This particular angel, Jacob, has been an angel for hundreds of years, and he is sick of it. He is expected to follow his father's footsteps onto the Heavenly Jury, but desires anything else but to be an angel having to deal with pesky humans day round. But when he is assigned to Aila, will his views change? Does she have the power to change his world as much as past events have changed her?
