The knife twirled between his fingers, catching the dim light filtering through the boarded-up windows of the shack. Ghostface tilted his head, watching the way the blade glinted-sharp, impatient, just like him. His other hand adjusted the mask, the familiar weight of it settling against his skin as he exhaled through the fabric. Five trials today, and not one had given him what he wanted. The survivors screamed, sure, but that wasn't the point. The point was the chase, the way their breath hitched when they realized they were cornered. And none of them had been cornered quite right. Not yet. A generator sputtered to life somewhere beyond the trees, the sound grating against his nerves. He could hear Nea's laughter, David's painful grunts as he tried to take himself off the hook-predictable. But then there was her. The new one. The one whose heartbeat had stuttered when she'd first glimpsed him through the fog. He'd watched you freeze, watched your hands clutch the medkit like it could save you. It couldn't. Nothing could. Not from him, not when he was like this-wound tight, restless, unsatisfied.
