STORY ON PAUSE
Marked by her white hair and smaller frame, Neytiri grows up being overlooked, avoided, and judged, learning early on how to survive without ever being anyone's first choice. Jake, half dreamwalker and half Na'vi, bears him a different mark-one that sets him apart, leaving him with the consequences of belonging to two different worlds; feared by some, disrespected by others, and never fully claimed by the clan he serves. Both understand what it means to be different, and what it costs to exist as an outcast.
Six years after their first encounter, Neytiri has passed her rites of passage and has earned her place amongst the People, finally old enough to be courted, though she remains unchosen and quietly resigned to the roles that have always been expected of her.
Jake, meanwhile, has become something the Omatikaya revere: one of the strongest, finest, and highest-ranking warriors of the Hufwe Tsamsiyuto (wind warriors). Hardened by years of battle against Mangkwan raiders, he returns to the clan to re-enter civilian life. Once dismissed, Jake is now highly sought after-but during the choosing ceremony reserved for the highest-ranking among the returning warriors, it is his choice alone who he will claim as a mate.
