Synopsis:
Deep beneath the ruins of Hawkins, the military's attempt to harness the supernatural has backfired into a nightmare. By using Dr. Brenner's secret files and a high-voltage accelerator anchored with the blood of Number Eight, they accidentally tore open a rift to The Hollow-a dark dimension of Equals who look exactly like us but are pure evil. These doppelgängers are now crossing over, killing and replacing the citizens of Hawkins, staying hidden until a spark of anger triggers their transformation into horrific, bone-crushing monsters.
To fight back, the military created Project Second Birth, using Eight's blood to birth a new generation of psychic kids. But the experiment failed: these "New Numbers" are unstable, vengeful, and have begun a psychic slaughter within the lab's walls. As the town's water supply turns toxic and the military prepares to firebomb the city to hide their crimes, Mike, Dustin, Lucas, and Will are left alone in a world of total paranoia. Without Eleven, they must survive a "Purge" where they can't trust their own parents, while Nancy and Holly Wheeler discover the most terrifying truth of all: the "Equals" don't just want to hide-they want to bring their entire world through the rift to erase humanity forever.
