In the heat-soaked summer of 1987, a mechanic's quiet routine is unsettled by the strange, handsome man next door. Jimmy Smith was easy to overlook: soft-spoken, limping, more interested in birds than people. Mikael Miller noticed him anyway. Seemed harmless. That was his first mistake.

When the ordinary started to go tits-up, it left behind questions that don't have clean answers. Or perhaps, the truth was never as clean as it looked.

[An Osprey Or Two] is a story about restraint, proximity, and the slow realization that the life you're protecting may not be the one you actually want: That letting go can be just as frightening as holding on.
