Sixteen-year-old LANZ CALDWELL expected his first mandatory high school trip to be memorable but mostly forgettable-a long ride to the city of Prasinos to spend a few days at the Annual Insulan Scientific Academic Convention, and then head aa quiet return to Valens, the kind of town where nothing ever seemed to change. What he didn't expect however was for the country to start collapsing.
By the time Lanz and his friends make it back, the place meant to protect him had become a place he had to run from for what awaited him wasn't just death, but things that looked human but at the same time didn't.
Despite thinking they were prepared for such situations, reality hit him and his friends like a brick and soon they became painfully aware of just how close they were to danger.
As Lanz and his friends search for a way to reach the designated safe zone-where his mother and neighborhood were evacuated-they cross paths with a pharmaceutical company-one that seems to know far more about what was happening than anyone else. And wherever the company appears, one name keeps surfacing, whispered over and over again: Diana, someone whom Lanz has never met yet everyone insists he resembles.
Caught between spreading horror, Lanz and his friends are left with one conclusion, that leaving Valens is the only way to survive.
