Salomon (Part One of Four)
Before the discovery of gold at Sutter's Mill brought tens of thousands of prospectors to California, the land was sparsely populated by Californios up from Mexico. It was untamed land. The wild West.
Salomon Pico was one of these Californios, the cousin of Pio Pico, the last governor of Alta California, before it became a US territory after the Mexican-American War. Salomon rode the California hills as a ranchero, and then as a scout for the Mexican Army under Captain Andres Pico. These glittering hills would eventually be named for Salomon, although, the reasons for which are bloody.
He returned home to a land overrun with gold seekers. Brutal circumstances lead Salomon to become of the most legendary bandits California has ever seen. The life of Salomon Pico became the basis for the fictional character the world knows as Zorro.

With modern technology practically useless, warriors rose to prominence. Through training, these warriors mastered immense powers, allowing them to battle monsters tens or even hundreds of feet tall. Humanity lost all its oceans and islands, including Australia. Ultimately, only five nations remained: these five great powers formed humanity's 23 base cities. Decades passed, and it wasn't until the rise of the protagonist, Zorro, that the balance between humanity and monsters was finally broken.

She hears about a mysterious place they call the "Train Station" and wonders if that is where her brother ended up. The Duttons have accepted her, but she is cautious, using her fake names and telling no one who she is. When Travis Wheatley comes to the ranch and meets her, he knows he has met the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with. She finds herself falling in love, but to be with Travis means returning to Texas, and all the bad memories. Will she be able to overcome her fears, will love win her over? Only time will tell.
