Nova Callisto had always dreamed of leaving her home in the Mirayan-occupied city of Orion, and traveling to the Free City of Lyra. There she knows she would escape the oppressive rules and strict regime of the Miray Council, she knows she would be appreciated and loved for who she is. But everyone she knows other than her 12 sibling and single mother are trapped in this twisted reality that the Miray Council are helping, improving society. All Nova wants is to escape.

One night, the perfect opportunity awaits. The Star Lantern festival parade, where all city gates are opened and everyone loses themselves in the joyous festivities. No one pays attention to the scruffy children slipping through the gates. But from there on not everything is so easy...
