Learning to be seen

Born into a family of legends, Ma'lieya Sully learned early how to be quiet.
How to stay out of the way. How to make herself smaller than she feels.
When war forces the Sullys to abandon their home and hide among the Metkayina, Ma'lieya thinks disappearing will be easy.
Until she meets Ao'nung.
He's sharp where she is soft. Loud where she is silent. And for reasons she doesn't understand, he refuses to leave her alone.
Her father orders her to keep her distance.
She obeys.
At least, she tries.
But Ao'nung doesn't believe in space. Or rules. Or letting her fade into the background.
And in the depths of the sea, Ma'lieya discovers that some hearts are louder than war.

NOTE: This is my own twist on things, so it will follow the storyline to some extent, but I'm adding a little more drama and romance to emphasize Ma'lieya's growth. I also aged the kids up to make it more appropriate.
