Westhaven University. October 1988.

Somebody is killing students on Halloween weekend, and nobody on campus knows it yet. A body in a stairwell one year. A girl attacked by something in white face paint the next. But the cases were closed and the school moved on.

This October, a journalism student named Ann Blair transfers in with a sharp mouth and a nose for buried stories. She starts pulling at threads the administration left untied. She also starts falling for Ben Robins, the most well-loved guy on campus.

He pays attention to everything everyone says. That's what makes him so good at what he does.
