Whatever the Future Holds (2027)

(Coming in 2027! Three chapters available now) Prompt 7: You write letters to your future self because the present hurts too much.

Harper Raves was captain of the cheer team, valvectorian and had the highest SAT scores in the 11th grade. Unfortunately, last year her father died due to cancer and her mother became depressed and eventually didn't pay much attention to Harper as she wanted to.

Along the way, Harper's old friend Finn ends up in a knot when the most popular girl takes her to a party and convinces her to avoid Harper all along. Finn eventually doesn't recognize Harper, who is the real friend and ends up leaving Texas to start over.

As Harper learns that life isn't a fairytale, she has to make a decision that makes it even harder to think about; leave her mother and start a fresh life or stay with her mother and become nothing. Eventually, she learned to zone everything out by writing letters to her future self.

As she dreams of becoming a famous writer, she is never motivated to do it. Until the dream about her 7th grade English teacher, Abigail Greenmail hits her in the face, she finally gets the courage to get up and do it. Will Harper be able to overcome whatever it takes? Or will she keep falling and stay down?
