The boy had no home, no people, and no control. A wanderer, pariah, a bum, and not even sixteen. A mutant freak, exile or maybe even a soon-to-be superhero.

He thought that maybe his power was to stop bad things, like the heroes in the comics he stole from public libraries. He was wrong.

Now, half-feral, gray eyes too old for his face, carrying a storm in his head and a belief that he was better off alone. He wanted to belong somewhere. He wanted to be good. He wanted someone to stay.
