Hollow Knight: After Rain

"To protect what remains."

With those words, the Hollow Knight departed.

There were no more Pantheons to ascend. No gods left unresolved. No further trials hidden within the endless architecture of Godhome. The long procession of contests had reached its natural conclusion, and the place itself possessed nothing more to offer.

So the Shade Lord left.

They did not depart enlightened.

They departed thinking.

But not immediately toward Hallownest. There was no longing drawing Them home, no duty compelling Their return. They wandered, and in wandering measured the silence what followed the end of purpose.

Only much later did They return.

But not because Hallownest could still be saved. That possibility had long since passed beyond even consideration.

They returned because another truth had revealed itself:

Hallownest is beyond salvation.

But it may still suffer violation.
