Even though I'd had valid reasons over the past few months, I hadn't given much thought to how I might die; and even if I had, I never would have imagined it would be like this.
Holding my breath, I stared across the vast room into the hunter's dark eyes. He looked back at me with satisfaction.
Of course, it was a beautiful way to die-dying in someone else's place. In the place of someone I loved. It was even a noble death. It had to mean something. I knew that if I had never gone to Forks, I wouldn't be facing death right now. But no matter how afraid I was, I didn't regret my decision. When life offers you a dream far beyond your expectations, it makes no sense to feel sorrow when you reach the end.
As the hunter stepped forward to kill me, he smiled-almost kindly.
