It is said that Klane Levett had as many levels beneath the surface as it did above, and in its vaults lie the greatest inventions that the world has ever seen... or so the old legends say.

In the southern reaches of the continent of Luran, there lies an ancient ruin. Once home to the most advanced constructs ever built, Klane Levett is now host only to the ghosts of broken promises and the shambling corpses of the forgotten dead. Left behind by the calculating brass of Luranite royalty, the rotting remnants of the drowned city waits for deliverance long overdue. As long as the city remains in the clutches of the Riftmarked, the seemingly endless hordes of nightmarish terrors that reside in the city could come sweeping over the land as they have more than a dozen times before.

The City is not entirely unmanned, however. The ancient keep of Gjeron's watch stands stoically above the ancient city, and the Watchers within keep an eye on the Walled Grave. Generations of skilled warriors, mysterious mages, and dedicated scouts have manned the bastions for nearly two millennia, and it is their dedication - and paranoia - that has kept the city in check.

Madrisi Mendoso is a privileged artificer from the north. As an expert on automata and constructs, he has many skills that could be improved by many of the arcane secrets left buried under the drowned city. He is ambitious, resourceful, and cunning. Unfortunately, he is also foppish, vain, and impulsive. After an argument with his uncle about the family business, Madrisi decides that the best way to improve his prospects is to unearth the secrets of Klane Levett
