The White Walls Institute is known for its calm, spotless halls, compliant patients, and the never-failing treatments designed to help people move on. Elara has been here long enough to know the rules: don't linger on memories, don't ask the wrong questions, and above all-don't feel too deeply. The doctors say her problem is emotional persistence. She doesn't let go. She remembers. She cares longer than is considered healthy. At White Walls, that makes her dangerous. As fellow patients begin to change-growing quieter, emptier, easier-Elara starts to notice the cost of "recovery." Those who improve are discharged into a peaceful world stripped of grief, love, and rage. Those who resist simply disappear. The truth slowly emerges: White Walls isn't treating illness. It's curing humanity. Now Elara must choose between the safety of forgetting and the violence of feeling everything in a world that no longer has room for people like her.

After her mother's unexpected passing, Gemma is sent to live with a group of strange men who don't seem overly fond of her being there. Their secrets, their strange rules and behaviour make Gemma want to run; to hide, to go back in time to when everything felt safe again. But life doesn't always play the way's expected, and Gemma's life of before can only stay as that: in the past.
