This is a story about the cost of survival-about what has to be surrendered when power chooses you, and how some acts of mercy look indistinguishable from cruelty.

There are moments in this story that will feel tender. You should not trust them. But that is up to you. There are promises that will sound safe. They may not be. Pay attention to what is missing, not what is said aloud.

Forget-me-nots appear often. They may not be symbols of hope here.

Some memories are taken.
Some are given away.
And some are destroyed so thoroughly that no one left behind will ever know what they lost.

If you are looking for comfort, you will find it in a summer beneath the trees. But you have been warned.
