Legends are said to be rooted in truth, their details blurred and reshaped by generations of retelling. Yet the legend of the King has remained unchanged.
Five hundred years ago, the great King-like all wolves-was gifted a mate by the Goddess. But when he learned that his destined Queen was human, his fury knew no bounds. In his rage, he rejected her. He rejected the Goddess's gift.
That single act set a dangerous precedent. One by one, other wolves followed the King's example, turning away from the mates the Goddess had chosen for them.
Seeking redemption-and punishment-the Goddess cursed the King's bloodline. From that day forward, neither he nor any of his heirs would be granted a true mate. They would never know the full power of the mate bond, nor the complete connection with their wolves.
