Noire turns twenty. He looks ordinary-but he's anything but. In secret, he works as an anonymous portrait painter, hidden behind a wax-stained apron and a cotton mask. In public, he's a body-conscious young man who dresses to disappear, relying on his friends' validation to feel seen.

Everything changes when a strange, twitchy client-dressed in an unfamiliar costume-claims he hasn't seen his own face in years. Noire keeps painting despite his unease, until the client knocks him out after a failed attempt to tamper with his mind.

He wakes on a bed to find the stranger watching him closely, asking about a dangerous, rumored place. Misreading the situation, Noire offers him a place to stay.

He doesn't realize he's just taken in an alien ex-convict, sent to find him-and take him back to another world.
