Being invited to the cookout means you're trusted. It also means you're being watched. When Audrey is invited into a close-knit Black community, she believes she's finally proven herself-an ally, accepted, welcome. But belonging here isn't casual, and it isn't permanent. It's conditional. As Audrey learns the unspoken rules of silence, timing, and restraint, she discovers that doing the "right thing" can be more dangerous than doing nothing at all. Selah is one of the people who decides who gets invited-and who quietly ensures the rules are followed. She believes the system protects the community. She also knows what happens when it doesn't. Told through dual perspectives, this slow-burn psychological horror explores what happens when acceptance becomes obligation, memory becomes control, and silence starts to feel safer than truth. Because once you're invited in, neutrality ends. And leaving doesn't mean you're free.
