Atlas Kincaid is the greatest strategic advisor in the world. When no solution seems available, governments and the super wealthy seek him out, relying on him to get them out of desperate situations. Always seeing the whole picture of what's going on, and always ten steps ahead, some say he's the smartest man who ever lived.

But Atlas is cold, detached, and a sociopath. Bored with the world and everyone in it, he tugs at the invisible strings around him, often causing chaos for his own amusement. Amoral and cunning, he's able to manipulate any situation to get what he wants.

Clara Winters has always relied on her deep intuition and emotional intelligence to get her through the world. She is highly emotional, feeling everything at full volume and moving through life passionately. With an extraordinarily kind heart and sweet disposition, Clara is loved by everyone she meets.

By some unlikely chance, Clara meets Atlas, and he helps her solve a case. Atlas is unusually intrigued by Clara, and the vibrancy and softness with which she moves through life. Eventually, Clara becomes his most enjoyable source of entertainment. He pulls the strings of everything around her like a puppet master, relishing in how deeply she's affected by things. His obsession builds, and ever the control freak, Atlas finds himself wanting to control her whole world.

But when Clara falls in love with him, when she begins to adore her savior in the dark suit who seems somehow not human, he'll have to admit that maybe, for the first time, he feels something real.
