When the battle ends and the cameras leave, someone still has to walk through the dust.

Lorelai Mercer works for S.H.I.E.L.D. as a Civil Recovery and Insurance Liaison assigned to clean up the aftermath of superhero disasters. She doesn't fight aliens. She doesn't wear armor. She carries a clipboard, a stack of housing vouchers, and the patience to sit with people whose lives were shattered in the crossfire of miracles.

She is the one who shows up after. After the explosions. After the evacuations. After the heroes have moved on to the next emergency.

By the time the world meets The Avengers, Lorelai has already spent years rebuilding what secret missions and emerging heroes leave behind. She's seen the collateral damage no one writes headlines about. She knows the names of the people Captain America apologizes to and never sees again.

Then, in the wreckage of New York, she meets Steve Rogers. The man who carries the weight of every broken window and displaced family as if it's his personal failure. She is the woman whose entire job is to make sure those people are taken care of.

He fights the war.
She heals the aftermath.

What starts as paperwork and professional courtesy slowly becomes something quieter, deeper - two people trying to shoulder the same burden from opposite sides of the damage.
