Where the Veil is Thin

You would think humans would learn to stay away from the unknown.

They don't.

Humans have always been drawn to it like moths to a flame, except the flame is usually something ancient, dangerous, or deeply uninterested in being bothered. Curiosity is one of their defining traits.

Unfortunately, so is ruining whatever they touch.

So when a group of self-proclaimed witches, more "book club with candles" than actual coven, decided to hold a séance to summon the Devil, it was exactly the kind of thing that would attract attention.

Specifically, the attention of a very bored necromancer.

Andra had nothing better to do that evening, so she slipped quietly into the gathering, settling in among the nervous giggles and dramatic candlelight. Watching amateurs try to contact the Devil sounded like excellent weekend entertainment.

Privately, she hoped they might actually succeed.

Because seeing the Devil show up and ruin their little ladies' night would be hilarious.

What she didn't know was that the Devil himself was also having a very boring weekend.

So he decided to attend.
