At that moment, the news playing on the TV suddenly caught both our attention. We both looked up.

"The manager of DL Bank has been missing for three days. Authorities suspect he may have been kidnapped..."

A photograph appeared on the screen.
My hands froze.
My eyes widened.
It was him.
The same man whose body had fallen out of that sack earlier that morning.

My stomach twisted.

Slowly, I turned my head and looked at the man sitting on the couch.
He looked completely unbothered.
Like the news had nothing to do with him.
Like the body in his house wasn't real.
I lowered my eyes and took a small bite of the sandwich.
A sob escaped my throat before I could stop it.
Tears rolled down my cheeks but I kept chewing on food.
I didn't even realize I was crying until I tasted salt.
