If I could, I'd run back through the memories, just to understand why this ending haunts me so. The final year of university, as expected, is a rollercoaster, terrifying and thrilling. But for Dami, it feels as though she's woken to find herself in deep mourning. Apartment 505 has always been her safe haven. It houses her and her three housemates, Justin, Hala, and Tomiwa, with two honorary members, Joshua and Samantha. It is the beginning and end of her world. Yet in a few months, she is expected to leave it all behind. What will that mean for the bonds they've built? Is she supposed to go from seeing them every day to barely seeing them at all? If it was always going to end, why did it even begin? Maybe if their paths had never crossed. Maybe if she hadn't blurred the lines of friendship. Maybe then she could face the future like everyone else. But she did. And now she has only her memories to soothe her, memories that keep her lingering in the past, even at the expense of the relationships around her. Even at the risk of losing Tomiwa. No matter how many times she replays the memories, she still cannot understand how to be normal like everyone else. "Though we aren't together tomorrow, you are always here in my memories." "And your present? What about the now, CS?"

Valeria didn't rush. She never did. Inez was pinned beneath her, wrist locked overhead, the hold precise and impersonal. Not pain. Control. Inez scoffed anyway. "That's it?" she sneered. "I've had tutors scarier than you." Valeria said nothing. The silence pressed in. "You don't scare me," Inez added, louder. Brattier. "You just-" "Enough." One word. Flat. Final. Valeria lifted Inez's chin with two fingers, detached as a correction. "Look at me," she said coolly. "If you're going to embarrass yourself, do it properly." Inez laughed, brittle. "You think this makes you powerful?" "I don't think," Valeria replied. "I decide." Her gaze never wavered. "You provoke because it's the last control you have." "I don't belong to you," Inez snapped. Valeria leaned in, voice razor-thin. "You are my wife. You belong to consequences." She released her grip. "Say it." A"No." Valeria waited. The quiet broke Inez, she hated being ignored. "...I'll behave, I'll be a good girl" Inez muttered. "Specify." Inez swallowed hard. "...I'll be your good girl" Valeria stepped back, already distant. "Good," she said. "Remember why." #1 older women-13th February (FAST PACE BOOK)
