Dmitri Raskolnikov was never meant to stand out. In his strict Russian school, boys like him were expected to stay silent, follow the rules, and disappear into the uniform that made them all look the same. But beneath the surface, Dmitri carries a pressure no one else sees - a quiet storm of expectations, loneliness, and a growing belief that the world is something he must survive, not trust. When one moment pushes him too far, a hairline crack forms inside him. Small. Invisible. But irreversible. As Dmitri grows, that fracture widens. He learns that protection is not something given freely - it's something taken, controlled, enforced. And if the world won't keep the people he cares about safe, then he will. No matter the cost. No matter how twisted the method. His path eventually leads him far from Russia, across an ocean to America, where he meets the woman who will change everything -but even in a new country, Dmitri sees the world through the same fractured lens: danger everywhere, loyalty above all, and love expressed through violence disguised as protection.

A slow smirk curved his lips - not warm, not kind... the kind that made the air feel thinner. "Scared?" he said quietly, almost amused. "You should be." Her breath hitched. "I'm not going to hurt you," he continued, voice low and controlled, "unless you give me a reason to."
